How Butter My Jam works

A shared party queue in three steps and about a minute of setup. No accounts, no installs, no cables handed around the room.

1. Create a room on the host device

Open Butter My Jam on the device that is connected to your speakers or TV — usually a laptop, PC, or tablet. That device is the host, and it is the only one that actually plays audio.

Two choices matter here:

  • Public or private. A private room needs a password on top of the room code, so only your guests can get in.
  • Everyone controls or host controls. "Everyone controls" lets guests add songs and manage playback. "Host controls" keeps skipping, pausing, and reordering with you and the admins you promote, while guests can still queue requests.

You can leave the room name blank — it defaults to a generic room name.

2. Share the room code or QR code

Every room gets a six-character code, plus a QR code displayed on the host screen. Guests point a phone camera at the QR and the room opens straight in their browser — no typing, no app store, no sign-up.

If people are joining remotely, send them the room link instead. They pick a nickname, which is stored only in their own browser, and they are in.

3. Let guests queue the music

Guests add songs three ways:

  • Search by song title or artist.
  • Paste a YouTube video link.
  • Paste a YouTube playlist link to pull in a batch of tracks at once.

The queue updates live on every device. Playback position is synced in real time, so the host's speakers and every guest's screen stay on the same moment of the same song. When the queue runs dry, the AI DJ can suggest what fits next based on what has already been played.

What you need

  • A host device with a modern browser, connected to speakers or a TV.
  • An internet connection for the host and each guest.
  • A phone per guest. Nothing to install on any of them.

Keep the host browser tab open while the party runs — playback happens in that tab, so closing it stops the music for everyone.
