What is a shared music queue?

A shared music queue is one playlist that everybody in the room can add to at the same time. Instead of one person holding the aux cord and fielding requests all night, every guest opens the room on their phone, searches for a song, and drops it into the queue. Playback runs on a single host device connected to your speakers, so the music never stutters between people's phones.

Butter My Jam is a free, browser-based version of that idea: a collaborative party jukebox with no accounts, no downloads, and no per-guest setup. Guests scan a QR code and they are in.

How it works

  1. Create a room on your host device. Use the laptop, PC, or tablet that is plugged into your speakers or TV. Name the room, choose public or private, and decide whether everyone controls playback or only you.
  2. Share the room code or QR code. Guests either type the six-character code or scan the QR shown on the host screen. The room opens in their browser instantly.
  3. Let guests queue the music. They search by song or artist, or paste a YouTube link or playlist. The queue updates live for everyone, and playback stays in sync.

Why hosts use it

  • No more song requests shouted at the DJ. Guests queue their own tracks and can see what is coming up next.
  • QR code joining. No app store, no install, no accounts to create — a camera and a browser is the whole requirement.
  • Host controls when you want them. Pick "Host controls" and guests can add songs while only you and your admins skip, pause, or reorder.
  • Private rooms. Lock a room with a password so only your guests get in.
  • Real-time sync across households. Everyone hears or watches the same moment, whether they are in your kitchen or three time zones away.
  • An AI DJ for the quiet stretches. When nobody is adding requests, Butter My Jam suggests what fits the queue so far.
  • Free. No tiers, no trial, no card.

Where people use Butter My Jam

House parties and backyard hangs where the host wants to stop being the jukebox, and remote watch parties where friends in different homes want the same video playing at the same second.

Common questions

How do I let guests request songs at a party?
Create a room on the host device that is connected to your speakers, then share the six-character room code or let guests scan the room QR code. Anyone who joins can search for songs and add them to the shared queue from their own phone.
Does everyone need an account to add songs?
No. There are no accounts and no sign-ups. Guests pick a nickname when they join, which is stored only in their own browser.
Is Butter My Jam free?
Yes, it is completely free to create rooms, join rooms, and queue songs. There is no paid tier and no trial.
Do guests need to install an app?
No. Butter My Jam runs in any modern mobile or desktop browser. It can optionally be installed as a progressive web app from the browser menu, but that is never required.
